Physician satisfaction and some good reads

Based on 2002 survey study by J. Paul Leigh et all, these are most likely to be satisfying specialties in descending order:

  • Geriatric medicine – taking care of old people, hospice care
  • Neonatal-perinatal medicine – babies!!!
  • Cardiothoracic surgery – uuuuu…
  • Dermatology
  • Pediatrics

 Lowest likelihood for physician satisfaction:

  • Otorhinolaryngology
  • Obstetric and Gynecology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Orthopedics (notice the plethora of specialties beginning with letter “O”)
  • Internal medicine

Interesting that some low-paid specialties are the most satisfying ones (geriatric, neonate, peds). Surely money isn’t everything right? 😉 And here’s some good reads for you guys:

  • Physician satisfaction (PDF)

  • Berita MMA (Malaysian Medical Association) – Current Issue (PDF)

  • MMA Medical Journal (latest- PDF)
